Whatever our current  circumstances are, the outcome will  pretty much be determined by how highly we regard ourselves.  It all begins and ends with this simple fact, every decision we make is influenced by what we truly think of “us”.  We will select employment opportunities, chose friends, be drawn to mates, pick extracurricular activities, relate socially and care for our bodies based on how much we value and appreciate ourselves.  Thus, how we feel about”us” appears to be a pretty big deal, huge, infact.

There is a ton of information on the market about esteeming self and i dare say, equal amounts of data on the benefits of putting self behind the needs of others.  i think the conflicting messages can leave people confused and frankly, worse off in the end.  Personally, although there is truth to be had on both fronts, i think each  independent frame of thought leaves dangerous misconceptions in it’s wake. i have gone both directions in my quest to come to that peaceful place and neither the “ taking good care of oneself” train of thought or the “denying self” has solved the issue of  a healthy esteem for me . What i have discovered is that a blend of the two philosophies become the meeting place for change and true life enhancement. » Read The Rest

We all have the same twenty-four hours and its up to us how we choose to use them.  Time stands still for no man  and it appears to be moving at breakneck speed  for me. Often i find myself asking the question am i using my busy days, hours and minutes of endless activity in a way that will please and satisfy me when i review my life at the conclusion of my journey.

Each person has a different list of essentials-what they deem necessary and fitting for their life.  However,  we are frequently pulled hither and yon with voices  beckoning us to add something new and novel to an already overcrowded schedule.   How do we know what voices to listen to and what activities will have the most positive impact down the road.   How do we pick and choose? What is just catching our attention and what is crucial?

Stabilizing our moods is not optional and one needs to learn pretty quickly how to alter undesirable moods if they want satisfying relationships in their lives. In case we are foolish enough to think that people will tolerate the “out of sorts syndrome” endlessly, think again.  Maybe our mothers are tolerant, maybe a sibling will suck it up but the average co-worker or the special guy/gal relationship we’re trying to maintain will not put up with it for long and will eventually be forced to say adios amigo.  There is already too much stress  built into the fiber of our lives that we can’t control  to have to deal with someone’s  sour disposition on top of it.

I get the distinct impression that most folks have no clue how their very own thought life impacts their sense of worth.  I’ll go one step further and say that the majority of people are completely in the dark as to what is actually ruminating through their minds at any given time. It is a sure thing that most folks don’t realize the adverse effect their thot patterns are having on them and the people around them. Someone once said, “we become what we think about all day long”. If we truly care about our final outcome in life  it might be in our best interest to take a closer look at what we swish around in our brains on a moment by moment basis.  Who knows, it may shed some light on some of the confusing times in our life.  More importantly, if we do struggle with low self-esteem  it’s a pretty safe bet that our thinking patterns play a major part in the problem.

We spend many of our waking hours searching for activities, friends, vocations, projects, and new types of RR that we’re convinced will complete us but we often just end up frazzled and not really fulfilled.  We all hope against hope that such pursuits will give us the life we are all searching for.  As frantic as many people are to obtain, achieve and conquer that which will satisfy, I doubt if it really pays off in the end.
Are we all barking up the wrong tree in our quest for the abundant life?  I have, personally, begun to recognize that the more I seek after that which I believe will satisfy me, the less it does.
